ETIAS: European Travel Information and Authorization System, Explained

Introduced by the European Union, ETIAS is a new travel regime that is going to be in action from 2021. ETIAS stands for European Travel Information and Authorisation System. It is a new visa-waiver system that will help the continent protect the countries falling under the continent of Europe. ETIAS will help in dealing with immigration issues as well as it will prevent criminal/terrorist activities from the countries. This will be applied to the European countries as well as the Schengen Border Area countries. To be accurate, there are a total of 26 countries that are currently a member of the Schengen Border Area.

These 26 countries are namely, Spain, Denmark, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, and Switzerland.

There are exactly 62 countries in the world other than the European Nations that are allowed to visit the European Nations without having to acquire their visas. This includes countries like New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the USA. But now the travel authorization system is going to change for them after the introduction of ETIAS. Only citizens belonging to these countries will have to register for ETIAS.

This new visa-waiver system is not applied to the citizens that always required a visa to enter the European nations as well as the countries falling on the Schengen border. So they will not have to register for this new travel authorization system.
